Julian Hsiung is a New York based artist who specialized in contemporary portraits and figurative art.
“As a painter, I adhere to a modern traditionalist framework, meaning that I work with traditional painting methods, but very much with an individual point of view. My paintings focus upon the representation of young people, engendering idealized beauty, sensuality and sense of ambiguity. My methodology and creative intent, purposefully reaches beyond the boundaries of tradition, in order to connect with a contemporary audience.”
Drawing since his childhood in Taiwan and living in NYC since the 70s, Hsiung devoted himself full time to painting in 2007.
The quintessential youthful male: this is the quest of painter Julian Hsiung. His realistic, oil portraits of idealized contemporary young men, caught just in the midst of movement, are implicitly sexual and undeniably sensual.
