Photographs by Santiago Mostyn (b. 1981. San Francisco)

These images are taken from a body of work released as a book called Excerpt: All Most Heaven.  The title is in tribute to an early album by the American folk musician Will Oldham, whose music greatly influenced the making of the book.  The images were made wile living on the Mississippi River as part of a collective performance project.  A large group of artists and musicians scrapped together materials and bulit wooden rafts that were launched in Minneapolis and charted down to St. Louis, MO over the course of two summers, stopping in each small town and enacting a vaudeville music and variety act that, in a fantastic way told the story of how the vessels were made (from scrap materias, as sustainably as possible) and why the group travelled,, and engaged with the mythology of that most storied American river.
