These young, fragile male figures  are hovering in many senses — between childhood and adulthood, male and female, human and insect. The artist refers to this purgatorial state as “fag limbo”: the moment before a boy in his prettified youth becomes an animalistic adult man. Do they wish to escape or linger for a moment longer?
