In the Studio

Hudson Valley (New York) artist Joe Radoccia has been exhibiting his work for over 20 years and has been selected by Charles Leslie of the Leslie-Lohman Gay and Lesbian Art in New York for a portrait commission.

His work varies widely, as he says, “I end to create bodies of work with vastly different focuses.  Moving from decorative small oils, into gestural figure studies, then on to extra-large portrait painting (the portraits are 5 feet high).  Then restlessness sets in, a yearning for color, and I return to the small oils again,, and so the cycle repeats.”

He’s back to the portraits now as he has three current or upcoming exhibitions:  A small series of LGBTQ Elder portraits were shown at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ center in Kingston NY in August.  Several large portraits in a four-person exhibit at the Coburn Gallery at Ashland Universiy opened this September.  And Joe has a very large one-man exhibition of his LGBTQ portraits commemorating “Stonewall 50 Years After” opening at Art Rage in Syracuse NY, in June of 2019.
